Richard Moles Research At The Public Records OfficeI will search The National Archive for the documents listed below, photocopy them and despatch the copies to you in a stout manila envelope, by first class post. We aim to complete all commissions within 30 days. If you don’t see the service you require on this web site don’t worry just contact us with your requirements and we will tailor a package and a fee especially for you. I am also willing to look at other areas of research outside of my field, military or civil at the Public Record Office on a no win no fee basis and subject to agreement. It doesn’t hurt to ask.

Officers Records 1660 – 1913
The army has not kept systematic records of its officers until fairly recently. If no record exists it is possible however, to trace an officer’s career from the Army Lists from 1754 to date.
Fee: Officers Records search £20 plus £0.50 per photocopied sheet and postage. To trace a career through The Army Lists, hourly rate @ £20 per hour.

Soldiers Discharge papers 1760 – 1913
This is an incomplete collection of soldiers papers they cover the period from 1760 – 1913. If yours exist they can be a mine of information, providing place of birth, age on enlistment, physical description and from 1883 next of kin details.
Fee: Soldiers Discharge Papers search £20 including photocopies and postage.

Service Records Imperial Yeomanry Boer War (other ranks)
Much the same as the soldiers papers above containing a wealth of information. We require the soldier’s regimental number.
Fee: Service Record search £15 including photocopies and postage.

Campaign Medal and Award Rolls pre 1914
Showing entitlement to medals, clasps and awards. A selection of the rolls available is as follows. Peninsular War, Crimea, Indian Mutiny, China, South Africa, Afghan, Egypt, Soudan, Burma, India, Somaliland ect ect. If you don’t see the one you want don’t worry just let us know what it is and we will endeavour to find it.
Fee: Copy of sheet where your Officer or Soldier is listed £5 each including postage.

Medal Rolls Boer War
Showing entitlement to Queens South Africa Medal and Kings South Africa Medal were applicable plus entitlement to any clasps.
Fee: Copy of sheet or sheets where your officer or soldier is listed £5 including postage. (If unit name and designation is known)
Fee: Hourly rate @ £20 per hour. (If unit name and designation is not known)

Medal Index Cards 1914 - 1918
Showing entitlement to Medals, Clasps and Silver War Badge. The name and date of entry into theatre of war, plus other information.
Fee: Medal Index Card £4.50 each including postage.

War Diaries 1914 - 1918
The contents of unit War Diaries can vary enormously largely depending on who and under what conditions they were written. They can be little more than weather reports or a blow by blow account of events at a given time.
Fee: Search £10 plus £0.50 per photocopied sheet postage included.

Locating a WWI and WWII Grave or Memorial
If your Officer or Soldier was killed in action, died of wounds or for any other reason and you would like to locate the grave or the memorial where he is commemorated, we can search the Commonwealth War Graves Commissions records on your behalf.
Fee: Search £5 including supporting paperwork and postage.
